Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the questions we hear most. Can't find what you're looking for? We're a message away.

Who can apply for a Manati loan?

Students who have been provisionally accepted at, or are registered with, a recognised university or college are welcome to apply. We assess each application individually — including affordability and joint household income — rather than on a credit score alone.

How do you decide whether to fund me?

Every application is assessed individually. We look at your circumstances and affordability — including joint household income where applicable — and structure a loan that's reasonable for your situation.

What does the loan cover?

Manati funds study-related costs such as tuition. The exact structure is confirmed on assessment, based on your institution, course and circumstances.

What interest rate will I pay?

Your rate is determined individually when we assess your application — we aim to keep it low. You can use the repayment calculator on our homepage for an indicative monthly estimate before you apply.

Are my instalments fixed?

We offer standard repayment plans with consistent instalments, as well as step-payment plans where instalments increase over the term. Your plan is confirmed on assessment, so you always know what to expect and can plan with confidence.

Can I apply with joint household income?

Yes — and we encourage it. With your spouse or partner's consent, you can include their income on your application, which can improve your chances of approval.

When do I start repaying?

Repayment terms are structured around your circumstances and confirmed on assessment. Depending on your plan, instalments can stay consistent or step up over time, so you can plan with confidence.

I'm an existing loan holder with a question about my loan.

Please contact your Account Manager directly, or email Collections@manati.co.za and we'll assist you.

I represent an institution — how do we partner with Manati?

We'd love to talk. Visit our For Institutions page or get in touch via the Contact page and we'll set up a conversation.
